Most of us have dabbled into the world of online sales – whether its buying or selling. I have done both – probably spending more than Ive sold!
For those who want to know some of my biggest lessons –
*Sourcing
I primarily source from my own closet. I dont purchase anything with the intent to resell, but I do like to rehab Coach bags specifically. It has become increasingly more difficult to do this since vintage Coach bag prices have risen significantly.
If you do anything other than free sourcing (friends and family) make sure you check comps. Make sure you know how the type of item you are trying to sell is currently moving.
*Value
We all want to ‘get paid’. The most important part of pricing your items is knowing that no one will pay what you paid for anything (unless its a collectors piece or something of high value). If you have checked comps, you can see what similar items to yours have sold for and how they are currently priced.
Do not make a mistake of not accepting an offer that is lower than what you are asking. Dont be afraid to counter, but know that in most cases, buyers arent going to negotiate beyond what they are offering to you.
Be knowledgable that all sales platforms take a percentage of your sale.
*Search Engine Optimization
In most cases, searching for an item on google will direct to almost any online sales platform (Poshmark, Mercari, Ebay) Use tags in your listings to make your items easy to find. Make your titles and descriptions as thorough as possible.
*Photos
Take a lot of photos of your item in good lighting. If you need to, take the pictures outside and lay your items on a sheet. Make sure to photograph any flaws.
Also, know that you will make mistakes. Be honest when this occurs.
I hope that these tips were helpful. If you have any other tips, please leave them in the comments!
